Imbolc Journaling Prompts

Most people associate the new year with January 1st; others say Samhain. For me, the start of a new year is Imbolc. While half of the world has laid dormant in the dark half of the year, we witches have focused inwardly on ourselves with shadow work. But now, the world is slowly stretching its arms and waking up. We have minor signs of life here and there, and the days are starting to get longer again. It's time to put away our inward thoughts and shift towards our environment and future year. For me, this is the time to make plans and start resolutions. As the Imbolc calendar states, it's a time for planting seeds for our future garden. Here are some questions to get you out of the dark doldrums and reshift your focus on goals that require some preparation.

  1. Holidays can be chaotic, and we seem to separate from our daily routines. Are there any people in your life that you've lost contact with during the winter months? How about reaching out to them by text or email?

  2. What are the projects you have planned for this year? Do you need to order any supplies?

  3. What is one thing you dislike about the season changing from cold to hot? What can you do now to alleviate some of that dislike? (ex. Buy bug spray to help combat mosquitos. or stock up on sunscreen to prevent sunburn)

  4. What is your happiest memory of Spring? What plans can you put into motion now to relive that moment? (ex. Map out a route to a park nearby or a hiking path.) If you loved playing with your dog who has passed, volunteer at a pet shelter to help walk the animals there.

  5. Are there any changes in your life that are making you feel off-balanced? Are there any small habits you can start that might make you feel more relaxed?

  6. If you could do anything this Spring, what would you do? What steps should you take to make it happen?
