Witchy Apps You Need Now!

When one starts their path into witchcraft, they usually follow a simple route: read blogs online, scroll social media, and then buy a couple of books. Yet that is where their resources seem to end. It took me two years to finally realize that I had another resource at my fingertips (many actually) - apps! Of course, now it seems so logical that I often critique myself for how long it took me to download some. I blame it on my elder millennial status. After downloading and uninstalling tons of apps, here is my final list of apps that have managed to stand the test of time.

Co-Star

Co-Star considers themselves as a "hyper-personalized, social experience bringing astrology into the 21st century."Initially, those fancy astrology charts just looked so confusing to me that I didn't even want to dip my toes in them. (Sorry Astrology Witches!) However, Co-Star gives you the full natal chart and breaks it down by house and what that means for you specifically. I've learned so much about my astrology and my zodiac sign. The only thing I think is lacking is the daily horoscope feature. Sometimes I feel that it's so far off that the local newspaper column understands me better.

Insight Timer

I've always admired the way some spiritualists can get up and practice meditation every morning to kick their day off right. I understand all of the benefits that it can bring but sadly I am not one of those people. I try to squeeze in 5-10 minutes of meditation anywhere I can manage it. Insight timer is wonderful because there are so many ways you can filter down to what you need: guided, music only, 5 minutes, 10 minutes, by topic. It's completely adjustable to your life and your personal needs. My sweet spot is listening to a male voice with little to no music in the background for 10 minutes. They have playlists for sleep, motivation, body image, gratefulness, etc. And here's the best part: it's free. Sure there are some special classes you can pay for, but I've used it for 6 years now and I've never paid a dime for anything.

Labrynthos

There are quite a few tarot apps out there, which comes down to the dealer's choice. I prefer Labrynthos because it is a fun and interactive way to learn the tarot and then a daily use tool.

Honorable Mention: Golden Thread Tarot

Golden Thread is another very popular option. While both are wonderful tarot tools, I love the color and fun animation of Labryinthos. But once again, dealer's choice! Try both and see which you gravitate towards more.

Moonifest

Moonifest is the newest app to be downloaded onto my phone. I'm still getting the hang of it, but it already looks promising. Moonifest is an app that uses the phases of the moon to help you manifest your intentions. I love the casual little reminders to make a New Moon intention and the helpful little rituals and tools you can use.

My Moon Phase - Lunar Calendar

This app is a handy moon tracker. Not only does it give basic information about the current moon phase, but also a schedule for the blue and golden hours (great for photographers). I have never upgraded to the pro app but the basic does everything I need to do just fine.

Picture This

Okay, this one technically isn't a witchy app, but I've never met a witch who wasn't interested in plants. This is my favorite go-to. I can take a picture of a plant out in the wild and it will automatically tell me what it is and how to take care of it. The app also has an entire service section to identify trees, insects, etc. I use Picture This so often that I upgraded to the yearly service so it can remind me when to water and fertilize all of my plants.

Red Candle

I have been on a few vacations where I wish I could do a quick spell but didn't have any of the tools needed. Well, Red Candle stands in as a perfect candle substitute. This would also be a very handy tool for those who are still in the broom closet or a dorm since you don't have to burn anything. You simply pick the candle you want to use and set the timer. If you want to stop it before the timer is through, tap the flame and it extinguishes.

Runic Divination

Runic Divination is a handy way to learn about and use runes. You can select from a variety of layouts and pull a reading. All of the runes are pretty accurate and I haven't had any issues with the app. Enough said!
